Blue Coconuts is a choir of female Japanese singers living in Bern or in the canton of Bern. It was created and is directed by Setsuko Oshiro Jeanneret.

The choir has existed since the autumn of 2003. Its repertoire consists of traditional Japanese works, both classical and modern, as well as European songs in German, French, Italian and English.

The name of the choir comes from a Japanese song which describes a coconut dreaming of its remote fatherland. And “blue” is the color of the memory of the meeting of the members of the choir and that of the sea.

Since its creation, Blue Coconuts has been singing on various occasions, engaged by companies or societies for meetings and parties.

As an example of program, let’s mention the one given on March 24, 2006 for the preview of the picture exhibition “le vent du Japon” organized by Foyer Handicap in La Chaux-de-Fonds which ran as follows:

Flower of the spring
Flying to the horizon
Song of the missing cat
Edelweiss

My ancient village
Best friends
My old chalet
A fainted light in the sky

This exhibition, which attracted a lot of visitors, featured some very beautiful works of one member of the choir, Miki Nussbaum; here is an example :
