In 2001, a group of parents, Eriko Tomii, Yoko Kono, Chizuru Tomii, Shigeko Tomii and Setsuko Oshiro Jeanneret created in Nozawa (a city in the prefecture of Nagano) a chorus of children and teenagers, the Piccolino choir.
The Piccolinis, about twenty girls and boys aged from 6 to 16, like songs and the theatre. In the last four years, they prepared and interpreted 2 musicals (Tonarino Totoro in 2002 and The Sound of Music in 2004) and 2 operas (Hansel und Gretel in 2003 and Die Zauberflöte in 2005).
On September 3, 2006 they will give the musical Snow White. They have been working on it since last spring. As for the other works, the adaptation of the texts and the music for children's voice was made by Setsuko Oshiro Jeanneret. She does not only transpose the music and simplify the action, but she wants a complete engagement of the whole troop, with no secondary roles. For example in Die Zauberflöte, there were 3 Papagenos! In Snow White, there will be more than 7 dwarves.
The repetitions with Setsuko Oshiro Jeanneret will take place as of mid-July. In the meantime, it is the pianist Kazuyo Kobayashi who trains the Piccolinis. With the help of their parents, the children prepare a stage and decorations in Broadway style !
